Republican Budget Members have penned a letter to the Lt. Governor and Secretary of State, urging the redirection of $24 million of State taxpayer funds allocated for the Centre Pompidou X museum project to a more responsible purpose. In their communication, the members emphasized the need for immediate action to repurpose the funds, stating, "We are writing to request that you immediately take steps to ensure the $24 million of State taxpayer funds appropriated though the Department of State in FY 2022 for the Centre Pompidou X museum project is redirected to a more responsible purpose."

The letter also highlighted concerns about the management of the project in Jersey City, with the members expressing dismay over the lack of financial prudence, stating, "Jersey City has caused this project to become a circus of excess and waste with little concern for how the bills will be paid." The members further outlined a specific course of action, requesting the return of an advance of $6 million and the placement of the remaining balance in a reserve for redirection.

In their plea for accountability and fiscal responsibility, the Republican Budget Members called for swift action, emphasizing the urgency of the situation by requesting a written response before the last Budget Hearing on May 14. The members stressed the need for transparency and prudent financial management in handling taxpayer funds, particularly in light of concerns raised about the viability and sustainability of the Centre Pompidou X museum project.

The call to redirect the allocated funds comes amidst growing scrutiny over the financial management of the project, with doubts raised about its feasibility and the potential long-term financial implications for Jersey City. As the debate continues, the Republican Budget Members are steadfast in their efforts to ensure that taxpayer dollars are utilized judiciously and in the best interest of the community.
